In Jefferson County, Tennessee this week, 2 people were charged with forging the signature of a mental health counselor in order to get one of them removed from the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.
In December 2018, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating allegations that a woman, 37 years old, had attempted to assist a man, 36 years old, in getting himself removed from the North Carolina Registry.
The woman apparently forged a mental health consultant’s signature on an evaluation document in order to facilitate the man’s removal from the registry.
Last week a Jefferson County Grand Jury returned indictments charging both the female and male with one count of criminal simulation, one count of forgery, one count of identity theft, one count of fabricating evidence and one count of false reporting.
On Tuesday the male turned himself in and was booked on $15,000 bond. Thursday, the female also turned herself in and was booked on $30,000 bond.
This isn’t the woman’ first run in with false reporting. In September 2016, according to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation records, she was charged in Jefferson County with official oppression, falsifying court records, official misconduct and false reporting. She was charged the same day in Sevier County, Tennessee for making a false report.
I want to say that it’s hard to imagine people would go to these lengths to get removed from the registry, but knowing the devastating effects the registry has on people, it’s not hard to imagine at all.
I would imagine a lot of Jews would have taken a chance and jumped from those boxcars had they known where they were headed.
